In reply to your Despatch No.68 of

of the 28th. February last referring to the proposed

permanent appointment of Mr. B. W. Grey as Land Surveyor

in the Public Works Department, I have the honour to

state that I m advised by the Acting Director of Public

Works that Mr. Grey's qualifications are not distinctly

superior to those of Mr. Jacob.

I beg, therefore, to submit that, as

Mr. Grey was already receiving $200 a month as a tempora-

ry Officer, the salary of Mr. Grey on his transference

to the permanent Staff be fixed at $175 a month which,

with Exchange Compensation to which, he will be entitled

will bring his molments up to about $219.
